Hello Friends!
Happy New Year to you and looking forward to better days ahead. My new CD Baker’s Circle has just arrived and physical CD’s are available right here on the site. After last year’s successful big band outing, Blue Soul, I’m back with my organ quartet with the addition of cutting-edge tenor player Walter Smith III. Baker’s Circle features my originals as well as a couple Eight Track gems and a tip of the hat to my former boss Stanley Turrentine. Along with Smith III, this recording features my working band of Jared Gold on organ and McClenty Hunter on drums and adds Cuban percussionist Mayra Casales to three tracks as well. I hope you’ll check it out.
If you’d like to digitally download Baker’s Circle, Blue Soul or any of my albums please visit my Bandcamp page. I hope you enjoy the music!
Some more good news: Blue Soul with Bob Mintzer and the WDR Big Band hit #1 for 3 weeks in June and stayed on the charts for 25 weeks!
Like everyone else, most of my upcoming gigs have been cancelled or postponed. We are hoping to be back playing for you soon. Check back here and I will keep you updated.
In the meantime please order some CD’s or books if you like! You can also sign up for lessons at my online school at ArtistWorks . I have put a lot of time into this site and look forward to meeting and working with anyone who wants to learn more about jazz – all levels are welcome. Come by and check it out: http://artistworks.com/join#dave-stryker

I truly like –as a former vibraphonist– the role you’ve managed to grant this instrument. I am not sure if you’ve done that purposely or if it happened by coincidence. The vibraphone isn’t easy to blend with the loudness of band instruments. You’ve achieved this very well, with 2 different instrumentists.
That said, I can not help but wishing that those groups which make systematic room to this instrument (SF Jazz would be another example), find ways to go even further, by allocating systematic sections in which the instrument would be heard in duets, or even alone (e.g. Hutchuson’s Hug).
It will never fail to amaze me, after all that Corea/Burton have done to prove that vibes sound much better without any drums, that 2 decades after, bands still seem slave to the traditionnal song structure, in which the rythm section is always loud.
Anyway, very well done!

Thanks Charles….I guess the idea is to play with drummers that are sensitive to dynamics and anything is possible
all the best
