Hello Friends! Happy 2019 and hope all is well! The big news is I just recorded 2 new albums in January. Eight Track III(!) and a Quartet date with the great Walter Smith III. Can’t wait for you to hear the new music and Eight Track III will be out in April! More info to follow, we are working on mixing and designing the cover now. Thanks to the readers and writers who voted me once again into the 2018 Downbeat Readers Poll and Critics Poll. Much Appreciated! Upcoming gigs:I’ll be at the Jazz Kitchen in Indy Fri Mar 1st, The Bar Next Door in NYC Mar 14, and my Bday/CD Release gig at Trumpets Sat Mar. 30th. My teaching website has launched at Artistworks.com. I have put a lot of time into this site and look forward to meeting and working with anyone who wants to learn more about jazz – all levels are welcome. Come by and check it out: http://artistworks.com/join#dave-stryker Some new releases I produced and played on: Jorge Nila “Tenor Time” Ninjazz Records and on Strikezone Records: Jared Gold – “Reemergence” and McClenty Hunter “The Groove Hunter”….In the meantime my new CD “Strykin’ Ahead” stayed on the JazzWeek radio chart for 20 weeks, received 4 Stars in Downbeat where it was picked as one of the Top CD’s of 2017. It also was picked Best of 2017 by Huffington Post – Ralph Miriello,Cadence Magazine – Larry Hollis,Bill Milkowski ,All About Jazz – C. Andrew Hovan,Positive Feedback – Marc Phillips and Curt’s Jazz Cafe. Strykin’ Ahead is available here NOW on my website on CD and Vinyl(!). It features my quartet playing some new originals and my arrangements of some jazz standards. Jared Gold, McClenty Hunter and Steve Nelson (the same group from Eight Track II) join me once again. “…Overall, the album casts a warm, clear glow, with plenty of cohesive interplay between Stryker, organist Jared Gold, drummer McClenty Hunter, and vibraphonist Steve Nelson. While influenced by many guitarists, Stryker remains true to his own vision. Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell may be touchstones, but Stryker forges his own sound throughout.” 4 Stars Martin Kasdan / Downbeat Nov 2017 BTW this is also my first Vinyl release, so I hope you will check it out if you dig vinyl. It sounds great! You can order it right here on the website along with all of my recordings and my book (currently reprinting). Just click Buy CD’s Icon. Hi friends…. I’ve had a busy year so far and it’s just getting started. I started out the year at the JEN conference in Louisville KY and I will be posting some video’s from my concert there. I had a ball playing with my organ trio with the great Bobby Floyd on organ, Jonathan Higgins on drums and our special guest the one and only Bob Mintzer on tenor sax. This is the same trio that is on my DVD “Dave Stryker Organ Trio Live” available only on this site. Closer to home I’m very excited about a brand new CD that I just recorded “Blue to the Bone IV”! We just played a great CD release gig for my current CD(also available right here) “Blue Strike” at the Jazz Standard and thanks for all who came out and packed the place. I also have some upcoming gigs I hope you’ll come out to if you’re in the New York/New Jersey area. My organ trio with Jared and McClenty will be at the Bar Next Door on Wed.
