Hello Friends! NEWS FLASH: Some good news: Blue Soul just hit #1 for 3 weeks on the JazzWeek Radio chart! I decided that I would go ahead as planned and release my new CD Blue Soul Dave Stryker with Bob Mintzer and the WDR Big Band. I figured in these times I could put some positive energy and music out into the world. You can order it right here on my website. If you’d like to digitally download Blue Soul or any of my albums please visit my Bandcamp page. I hope you enjoy the music! These are extraordinary times. Please be safe and let’s all get through this together. Like many others most of my upcoming gigs have been cancelled or postponed. Check back here and I will keep you updated. In the meantime please order some CD’s or books if you like! You can also sign up for lessons at my online school at ArtistWorks Thanks! Eight Track III stayed at #1 for 6 weeks and #3 most played of 2019 on the JazzWeek radio chart, received 4 Stars in Downbeat and has made many Best of 2019 lists including The New York Times and Rolling Stone! The other news is Dave Stryker’s Jazz Improvisation Method Vol III is hot off the press. Both are available right here on this site . “When it comes to ultracool & hip jazz, guitarist Dave Stryker is at the very TOP of the list… what an absolutely fun album. The album opener, “Move on Up“, alone, makes it well worth purchasing the full album. Jared’s organ just KICKS IT OUT on this superb tune! Stevie Wonder’s “Too High” is one of the best performances of the tune I’ve ever heard. The recording is just flawless. I give Dave & his superb players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 out of 5.” Dick Metcalf, editor, Contemporary Fusion Reviews Thanks to the readers and writers who voted me once again into the 2019 Downbeat Readers Poll and Critics Poll. Much Appreciated! My teaching website has launched at Artistworks.com. I have put a lot of time into this site and look forward to meeting and working with anyone who wants to learn more about jazz – all levels are welcome. Hi friends…. I’ve had a busy year so far and it’s just getting started. I started out the year at the JEN conference in Louisville KY and I will be posting some video’s from my concert there. I had a ball playing with my organ trio with the great Bobby Floyd on organ, Jonathan Higgins on drums and our special guest the one and only Bob Mintzer on tenor sax. This is the same trio that is on my DVD “Dave Stryker Organ Trio Live” available only on this site. Closer to home I’m very excited about a brand new CD that I just recorded “Blue to the Bone IV”! It has been almost 10 years since the last Blue to the Bone CD and this one will be out later in 2012. It features Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Steve Slagle on alto sax, Vincent Gardner on trombone, Gary Smulyan on bari sax, along with my working organ trio, Jared Gold on organ and McClenty Hunter on drums. We just played a great CD release gig for my current CD(also available right here) “Blue Strike” at the Jazz Standard and thanks for all who came out and packed the place. I also have some upcoming gigs I hope you’ll come out to if you’re in the New York/New Jersey area. My organ trio with Jared and McClenty will be at the Bar Next Door on Wed. Feb 1st, at the Robin’s Nest in Linden NJ Sat. Feb. 4th (with Steve Williams on drums) and then Fri/Sat Feb 10-11th at Cecils in West Orange NJ with Jared and Steve again.
