Whether you’ve heard guitarist Dave Stryker leading his own group (with 28 CD’s as a leader to date), co-leading The Stryker/Slagle Band, or as a featured sideman with Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why the Village Voice calls him “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years.” He was recently voted once again into the 2017 Downbeat Readers and Critics Polls.

Dave’s new CD “Strykin’ Ahead” is now available on this site. It has stayed on the JazzWeek radio chart for 25 weeks, reaching #3 and was picked as one of the Top CD’s of 2017 in Downbeat and many other lists. His previous CD “Eight Track II” went to #2 on the JazzWeek Radio chart staying on the chart for 20 weeks and received 4 Stars in Downbeat. “Messin’ with Mister T”, available here, is a celebration of the man he worked with for over a decade — Stanley Turrentine, “Mister T” — with ten of the greatest tenor sax players on the scene today. It went to #1 on JazzWeek Radio and stayed in the Top 50 for 20 weeks and received great reviews including 4 1/2 stars in Downbeat magazine.

It also was picked Best of 2017 by Huffington Post – Ralph Miriello Cadence Magazine – Larry Hollis Bill Milkowski All About Jazz – C. Andrew Hovan Positive Feedback – Marc Phillips Curt’s Jazz Cafe Strykin’ Ahead is available here NOW on my website on CD and Vinyl(!). It features my quartet playing some new originals and my arrangements of some jazz standards. Jared Gold, McClenty Hunter and Steve Nelson (the same group from Eight Track II) join me once again. “…Overall, the album casts a warm, clear glow, with plenty of cohesive interplay between Stryker, organist Jared Gold, drummer McClenty Hunter, and vibraphonist Steve Nelson. While influenced by many guitarists, Stryker remains true to his own vision. Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell may be touchstones, but Stryker forges his own sound throughout.” 4 Stars Martin Kasdan / Downbeat Nov 2017 BTW this is also my first Vinyl release, so I hope you will check it out if you dig vinyl.
